Welcome to the inaugural issue of my newsletter! Thank you so much for being a subscriber. On the first Friday of every month, I’ll be bringing you resources to help support, inform, and entertain you.

For those that don’t know, zugunruhe (pronounced zoog’-un-rooey) is a term from ornithology. It means the migratory urge. I think zugunruhe is a great description for what people feel when they’re ready for a change: the itching to move, get going, and cover new territory.

One of my favorite things is connecting people with resources, opportunities, and each other. This month, I’ll be giving you some tips on how to bounce back from setbacks and a chance to sign up for my get-unstuck-and-get-writing teleclass. What would you like to see next month? Success stories? Tips for productivity? Book reviews? Feel free to email me anytime with suggestions, questions, or comments. And if you know someone else who might be interested, please forward this email. Have a great October!

Peace be with you,
Tara

Resiliency: How to bounce back from setbacks

Resiliency is the ability to bounce back from adversity. Resilient people are flexible. When an obstacle shows up, they find a way around, over, or through it. Resilient people learn from the bad things that happen to them. They get better and ultimately, more successful. Here are some ways you can boost your resiliency.
  1. Generate possibilities and options. The more explanations or options you can come up with, the more choices you have in how to respond.
  2. Accept support. When someone asks if they can help, think of an answer other than ‘no.’
  3. Do something nice for someone else. It’s good therapy and good karma. For some examples plus a big dose of warm fuzzies, watch this video (and enjoy the music!).
  4. Count your blessings. Try this simple exercise: every evening, write down three good things that happened to you. For each good thing, write down what caused it. Research shows that writing down three good things and their causes every night for just seven nights significantly improves happiness. When you are happier, you are more resilient.
  5. Look for your strengths. What are you best at? What brings you the most joy? Take the VIA Signature Strengths test and then look for novel ways to apply your strengths to your situation.
